Using ACT to Guide Exposure Therapy
With Dr. Brian Thompson
Monday, November 18th at 12 PM ET
Join Us for a Workshop on ACT-Informed Exposure!
Exposure therapy is an effective method for strengthening psychological flexibility whether in an ACT context or not, and outcomes for ACT-informed exposure have been comparable to traditional exposure (Arch et al., 2012; Thompson, Twohig, & Luoma, 2021; Twohig et al., 2018). As ACT processes appear relevant in anxiety and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (Arch, Wolitzky-Taylor, Eifert, & Craske, 2012; Reid et al., 2017), the ACT psychological flexibility model can help therapists expand their ability to recognize and respond to clinically relevant behavior in exposure work.
This workshop will offer a brief introduction to ACT-informed exposure. Through using a case example, Brian will demonstrate how the ACT model can conceptualize and guide exposure therapy. Attendees will learn markers in client behaviors that signal deficits in ACT processes during exposure.
Hope to see you there!
Attendees will learn to:
Understand exposure in an ACT context
Conceptualize how exposure may target core ACT psychological flexibility processes
Using examples of client feedback, identify core ACT psychological flexibility processes that were strengthened during exposure.
When: November 18th from 1-12 PM ET
Where: Virtual
Cost: $10 for Members | $15 for Non-Members | $5 for Students
