Introduction to ACT & Psychological Flexibility
We are thrilled to announce the kickoff of our "ACT in Process Lecture Series" with Dr. Abu M. Nasim. In this enlightening lecture, we will delve into the fascinating relationship between language and psychological well-being. You'll gain valuable insights into the formation of psychological flexibility and how it is conceptualized in connection with happiness, resilience, and competence.
Pain vs. Suffering: Shaping Our Clinical Work Towards Values & Connection
Pain and suffering can be seen as part of the same continuum, or they can be seen as opposites. Their connecting and opposing nature are often what bring people into the therapeutic space. This workshop, led by Brian Mundy & Matt Wofsy, will focus on aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and how clinicians can use this work to help people build resilience and address adverse challenges.
Juneteenth Panel Discussion
In this roundtable discussion, panelists will talk about their experiences as Black- and African American-identified practitioners of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In celebration of Juneteenth, they will reflect on the significance of the holiday and address themes of freedom and justice within the context of systemic racism and oppression. The application of ACT towards personal and collective liberation will be explored, while addressing the influence of intersectional identities.
Psychological Flexibility & Psychedelics: Using Contextual Behavioral Science to Guide Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
Over the last decade, psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) has emerged as a novel form of mental health treatment and is unique in using a combination of psychotherapeutic techniques with an altered state of consciousness to facilitate change and transformation. This presentation will provide a brief overview of this new form of treatment from the perspective of contextual behavioral science. In addition, evidence from recent rigorous clinical trials will be reviewed and evaluated. Finally, the presenter will examine acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) -- and contextual behavioral science more broadly -- as a framework for providing psychedelic-assisted therapy.
When Love Hurts: Navigating Relationship Difficulties with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Intimate, sexual, and romantic relationships can bring joy and heartache and everything in between. In this workshop, we’ll focus on the more difficult aspects of love and explore how ACT can help people navigate them. Further, because relationships need not be monogamous, we’ll discuss other forms of relationships (e.g., polyamory) and their unique challenges for partners and therapists.
